We live in a world of political correctness. Often we don’t actually say what we think. We say things that are empty, shallow, and not genuine so as to offend the fewest people. This isn’t going to change any time soon. So perhaps I am going to ruffle a few feathers here, but life is short so what the heck.
Phrases like “money can’t buy happiness” are counterproductive to society and encourage and enable people to continue to live in a world of financial inertia. If money can’t buy happiness, then what’s the point? I have been in the Wealth Management business for 15 years, and it is absolutely astonishing how many people don’t treat their finances with the respect they deserve. It is crazy that people would shed blood, sweat, and tears climbing the corporate ladder so they can earn a paycheck, deposit the check in their bank account, then proceed to let their hard-earned cash slip through the cracks because they don’t have direction or a plan. Don’t be that person. Get your financial house in order NOW so you can be happier. Yes, that is right. Money can buy happiness.
Andrew’s observation: The only thing in life that everyone wants more of is time. The more financial stability you have, the more of your time that you control. It’s that simple. There are 168 hours in a week, but how many of those hours do you currently “own”? In my case, my job owns 40-50 hours, sleep owns another 50 to 60, which leaves the remainder of my week for having a few laughs with friends, playing soccer with my kids, binge watching Netflix with my wife, going out for a nice supper, going for a long walk with my dog, giving back to charities, and perhaps even an hour to myself every day so I can just chill. In case you didn’t connect the dots here, I want to be spend more time in the last category I laid out above. If you owned 1, 2, or 3 more hours a day to do the things you want, when you want, with whomever you want to do them, would that lead to a happier version of you? Does that put a smile on your face? A strong financial backing allows you choices, freedoms, and most important, Time. So what are you waiting for?
